San Francisco Technology Startup to Connect Veterans to Veteran Business Leaders.
San Francisco, CA – SmartRecruiters, in cooperation with DirectEmployers, Veterans Network Cafe, and the Employment Development Department Vet Reps, will open its SOMA headquarters Nov. 7 to provide free expert career advice to 100+ unemployed and underemployed veterans.
Veterans Day honors the men and women who have served in the United States Military. According the Bureau of Labor Statistics, the American Workforce includes 21.2 million veterans, yet the unemployment rate for Veterans ages 18-30 is approximately 25% higher than the average 18-30 year old.
“Upon re-entering civilian life, Veterans face different job search challenges than most of society,” said CEO SmartRecruiters Jerome Ternynck. “The best career advice often comes from people of similar backgrounds, who have reached positions you hope to attain.”
“Veterans Helping Veterans” will help unemployed and underemployed veterans further their careers. Volunteers from the Veterans Network Cafe, Employment Development Department, Members of DirectEmployers, and SmartRecruiters will lead group discussions and provide personalized career counseling, ranging from resume revisions, mock interviews, and introductions. Then, there will be a panel called, “Valuing Veterans in Our Workforce,” featuring Veteran business leaders from ZipRealty, the National Nuclear Security Administration, and Intuit.
“This is a great next step in helping our local veterans,” said Veterans Network Cafe VP Talent Acquisition Misha Hawk-Wyatt.
