THE 10 to Follow in Social Media Recruiting

I’ve been giving some thought to influence and social media, particularly on Twitter. While the use of Twitter and other social media recruiting tools is essential for any social media recruitment strategy, it is often misunderstood, and in my mind serves three purposes for a recruiter or company building a corporate social recruiting strategy. Here are the three divisions of recruiting on Twitter.

1. Twitter is a candidate source providing real time updates, keywords and information that recruiters and candidate sourcers can extract and build candidate lists.

2. Twitter is a job distribution platform.  Twitter is powerful to share job postings from your company, taking into consideration the use of proper niche hash tags and keywords to share your openings and announcements to a large, active, and influential population.

Industry news, information, and best practices especially for social recruiters and recruiters are tweeted, and there are essential influencers, companies, and experts who I watch closely, learning, and listening from.  You can too.

Here are 10 social media recruiters, influencers, and experts who have my attention on Twitter:

@youternmark10. @youternmark Mark Babbit is the CEO of YouTern and manages a successful Twitter chat on Monday nights at 9 PM EST called #internpro.  He and his team have their pulse on Millenials, particularly interns and new grads who are entering the workplace.  Check out the great resources on their Savvy Intern Blog as well.

@KimHollenshead9. @kimhollenshead Kim Hollenshead works for VMware as their University Recruiter.  This girl knows everyone and can connect you with the right candidates, social media influencers, and recruiters in the space both on and off Twitter.  She is an early adopter to Twitter and saw its growth in 2007 at SXSW.

@gerrycrispin8. @gerrycrispin  Getting buy in from senior leaders when it comes to social media is not easy.  Gerry Cripsin’s insights into his source to hire study and his involvement in launching the candidate experience help recruiters and HR understand how social media and engagement can impact the big recruitment big in the long term.

@techMegan7. @techmegan Megan Hopkins is a tech recruiter and HR Director for a startup.  She provides great insights into how to use Twitter and other tools for recruitment.   Her article on how to use Twitter really hit the mark when it comes to recruiting on Twitter without the big brand.

@glencoffey6. @glencathey For the third party recruiters out there who love Boolean search, Glen Cathey provides insights and resources into how to use social media as a candidate source and pipeline.  His blog has fantastic content on the topic.

@apreci85. @appreci8.  Avery Bock oversees social media and recruitment strategies for Taco Bell.  She’s very engaged on Twitter and provides insights into how social media as well as Twitter is being used at a big brand.

@levyrecruits4. @levyrecruits  There is one recruiter on Twitter who gives it to you straight and won’t sugar coat your message for recruiters, HR, and job seekers alike.  That person is Steve Levy.  Be prepared for blunt yet helpful tweets and conversation that is equally entertaining.

@thealphafemme3. @thealphafemme Carrie Corbin is the Associate Director of Talent Attraction for AT&T.  She oversees the social media and talent efforts for their organization.  Twitter is a small piece of what they do.  Ask her about how she is using SEO in their recruitment strategies.

@jessica_lee2. @jessica_lee  Jessica Lee is the Director of Digital Strategy and Recruitment for Marriott.  Spend some time with her and learn about talent communities and how her company is using Instagram, Facebook, and Twitter as part of their candidate experience.

Arie_Ball1. @arie_ball.  Arie is the VP of Talent Acquisition for Sodexo and is a leader and innovator in the social recruiting space.  I’m looking forward to meeting her in real life in Dallas this June for People Report Summer Camp.
