You never know what you&#8217;re gonna get,&#8221; Forrest Gump so poignantly said. \u00a0And while I can admit, when life goes a little awry I\u2019ve found myself referencing this mantra; there\u2019s one part of life this saying cannot be applied to:\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.smartrecruiters.com\/blog\/hiring-economics-101\/\">hiring.<\/a><br \/>\n<!--more--><br \/>\nLife may be like a box of chocolates, but hiring isn\u2019t. When you\u2019re making that next hiring decision, be sure not to take your advice from good old Forrest Gump. Unlike a box of chocolates you should know EXACTLY what you\u2019re getting from your next hiring decision. Even if that means biting off half and leaving the rest in the box. Only the candidates you REALLY want and need should be getting a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.smartrecruiters.com\/blog\/would-you-make-a-job-offer-through-social-media\/\">job offer<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/CJh59vZ8ccc\" width=\"640\" height=\"360\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>Hiring decisions should not be left up to chance. By using the right resources you can dramatically decrease the rate and likelihood of high <a href=\"https:\/\/www.smartrecruiters.com\/blog\/hr-scorecard-measuring-turnover-and-other-hr-analytics\/\">turnover<\/a>. That saves you time, money, and let\u2019s face it, headaches. We are talking about the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.smartrecruiters.com\/blog\/the-science-of-hiring\/\">SCIENCE of hiring<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Relying on a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.smartrecruiters.com\/blog\/what-employers-really-want-to-see-on-a-resume\/\">resume <\/a>alone gives you a one-dimensional view of the candidate. You want the holistic view, from skills to culture fit and everything in-between. The science of hiring requires a formula, and that formula includes <a href=\"https:\/\/www.smartrecruiters.com\/how-it-works\/candidate-assessment\/\">candidate assessments<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Lets start with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.smartrecruiters.com\/blog\/should-you-hire-for-personality\/\">personality<\/a> tests. Or do you want someone confident and extroverted? Pick a name out of a hat and you may pick a candidate better suited for a job in a library. You know what that means? They\u2019ve completely\u00a0ignored Gump&#8217;s chocolate choosing strategy and know EXACTLY who they\u2019re hiring.<\/p>\n<p>As much as I love Gump and thinking about life like as a box of chocolate &#8211; it\u2019s way more complicated that that.
